Reps. Schiff, Gomez, and Sánchez and Reps. Castor and Crist Make Dodgers-Rays World Series Wager

Members from the Losing Team’s City Will Wear the World Series Championship Team’s Mask on House Floor

Washington, D.C. – As the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Tampa Bay Rays prepare to face-off in Game 2 of the Major League Baseball World Series tonight, Los Angeles area representatives Adam Schiff (D-Burbank), Jimmy Gomez (D-Los Angeles), and Linda Sánchez (D-CA) made a friendly wager with Tampa Bay representatives Kathy Castor (D-FL) and Charlie Crist (D-FL) on the outcome of the World Series. If Los Angeles wins, the Tampa Bay representatives will wear Dodgers masks on the House Floor when Congress returns to session, and if Tampa Bay wins, the Los Angeles representatives will wear Rays masks on the House Floor.

“The Dodgers are the best this team has looked since the late 80s, when I first moved to Los Angeles and came to root for the boys in blue, in the era of Fernando-mania, Orel Hershiser, and Kirk Gibson. With Mookie, Cody, Walker, Corey and Clayton on the field, the Dodgers are the team to beat,” said Rep. Schiff. “Luckily for my Floridian colleagues, I already have several Dodgers masks on hand ready for them to wear, and I look forward to seeing them sporting Dodger Blue on the House Floor in the coming weeks!”

“While baseball has looked a little different this year due to the COVID-19 crisis, I’m happy Reps. Castor and Crist could agree to a World Series bet with my Los Angeles colleagues and I which reminds everyone to mask up and stay healthy,” said Rep. Gomez, who represents Dodger Stadium. “As a lifelong Dodgers fan, I remember the championship teams from my childhood and look forward to celebrating for the first time in 32 years. Although I’m confident L.A.’s team will bring home another pennant for our city this year, I appreciate Reps. Castor and Crist stepping up to the plate and putting their allegiance on the line.”

“While I’m disappointed the Dodgers passed on signing me after my years playing for the Congressional baseball team, I know the boys of summer will be able to do it without me,” said Rep. Sánchez. “I look forward to seeing my Florida colleagues in the proper shade of blue on the House floor.”

“We are turning Tampa Bay in to CHAMPA BAY in 2020,” said Rep. Castor. “The Tampa Bay Rays are synonymous with grit, determination and fun. We will win this series with toughness, resilience and probably a little bit of creativity! The Dodgers may have the payroll, but the scrappy Rays have the heart to win it all. Rays Up!”

“The Rays may be underdogs but they’ve been surprising everyone all season long,” said Rep. Crist. “Tampa Bay is having a sports year for the record books, and bringing home the World Series will be the icing on the cake. Rays Up!”
